Radian response to the Autumn Statement
On Wednesday 23 November 2016, Chancellor Philip Hammond delivered his first Autumn Statement detailing several policy announcements for the housing sector.
Lindsay Todd, Radian Chief Executive commented:
“The announcement of £1.4 billion in capital funding to support delivery of up to 40,000 new affordable homes over the next five years is real progress, particularly as it will extend to affordable rented as well as low cost homeownership homes. The need for these is pressing in all the areas where we operate and we will respond energetically to increase supply.
The new Housing Infrastructure Fund shows government recognising that housing is a national resource which requires infrastructure investment, and this £2.3 billion fund to get housing land “shovel ready” is great news.
We hope the forthcoming Housing White Paper maintains the emphasis on addressing the chronic undersupply of housing and the continuing decline in housing affordability.”
